Countdown to the Same Old Me

It was 11:00 pm New Years Eve. 1 hour until the new year.
We were flying home from the holidays and the sound of the engine hummed quietly as I watched the clouds glimmer outside our window. I could have sworn the stars were dancing around the clouds. They looked like fairy's playing hide and seek in a magical and dreamy sky.
I looked at the clock, 30 minutes until the new year.
30 minutes to the new me? Isn't that what people say?
But...I don't want a new me. I love the me I am right now. I love the progress I've made. I want to continue discovering my boldness and passions. So, that settles it, no starting over for me. Just continuing.
20 minutes until the new year.
I asked God a simple question: what adventure are we going on this year? He told me this.
We're on the same adventure we've always been on; pursuing people. You may never understand everyone you meet but I’m asking you to continue trying. It’ll be the greatest adventure you’ll ever embark on; it’ll never get old. It’ll lead you to tears, hope and endless questions. Keep asking and keep listening. Arrest your judgements when you look into their eyes. Hold their heart in your hands and care for it with wonder. Experience their history and watch them as they dream of their future. You want to find the beauty in my creation? Baby, their the masterpieces I can't get enough of. I know you feel the same. The path you've chosen holds a new adventure everyday, just don't forget about yourself.
10 minutes until the new year.
We've landed and are walking through the airport heading towards customs. I really am starting to love myself; I've dreamed of this feeling for far too long. My new found boldness. How I hesitate less to speak out in front of a crowd. Discovering how natural my social work skills are. God has planted everything I've ever needed inside of me and all I have to do is ask Him how to use them.
1 minute until the new year.
We are heading down the escalator towards baggage claim when he leans over and plants a kiss on my lips. He wishes me a happy new year with those sparkling hazel eyes. As I walk out, I whisper to myself, "another day, another heart, another story and another adventure ... but the same beautiful you. Happy new year world."
