Sand Castle Songs

How is it possible for someone to feel so shattered yet so resilient in one moment.

You remind me of waves crashing onto settled sandy shores; bold but lost in the deep abyss.

I see you; I hear your pain.

With one hand you build your castle - brick by brick - so tall not even the sun can find you.

Besides, the sun has always promised you a new day. It never came.

What if I promised to sit in the dark with you.

I promise I'll jump off into the deepest waters with you, just to feel held by the cold waves.

With your other hand you claw at each brick, desperate for freedom.

Desperate to catch even a glimpse of a rainbow - you’ve heard they're beautiful.

You’ve heard they're filled with promise.

Promise; how sweet a word, how deadly a curse.

Maybe that's why my promise to you caused more hurt than hope.

I never broke it but you still expect me to. Everyone else in your life has, so why wouldn't I, right?

I prom.... I see you. I hear you.

I feel you shattering and building yourself up in one sentence.

You were born into a cage, always at war with yourself.

This wasn’t your dream.

This wasn't the life you wanted.

Yet here you are, sitting right in front of me.

You feel shattered but I can see the lion inside of you.

You feel fierce but then I notice your eyes turn glossy.

I see you; I hear your silent pain.

Don't forget that you are like ocean waves that crash onto settled sandy shores.

People come to the ocean to hear its roar. They stand in awe of its mystery.

Just the same, they will come to hear you.

The world will come to admire the sound you make - the song you sing.

They will see you and they will hear you.

But until then maybe one day you'll leave your sand castle high and watch some storms roll over the ocean wide. I hope you even catch a glimpse of a rainbow.
