A Chance at Hope

We are constantly being given opportunities to react. We are constantly facing scenarios that invite us to experience the spectrum of what feels like uncontrollable emotions. I received some interesting news yesterday. I believe the nature of this news should have naturally targeted fear, worry and anger; which it did. I sat there listening to what was being shared with me and I watched as fear passed through my thoughts. I asked it to leave but it disappeared into worry. I felt the worry in my hands as I became hyper aware of what I was doing with them. Before I could shake it off, I felt anger invite itself in. I could hear it boiling as my skin turned hot. My internal justice button had triggered a wound that I didn't know still stung. But I asked these emotions to let go of me and they vanished.

So I sat there, as I often do, asking myself, "how will you choose to react to this situation?"

And I chose hope.

I believe that even when situations are beyond our control, our reactions are very much in our control. As I faced what felt like uncertainty, I chose to take hold of the security in hope. Almost instantly, thoughts of self love and compassion rose up and gave me a great big beautiful hug in the midst of it all.

So I sat there, as I often do, and said to myself...

"It'll be okay, it always is."

"Thank you for breathing so deeply through this, you're doing great."

"How are You going to spin this to become something beautiful?"

I let go of the weight of the news being shared with me. Instead, I turned my heart up towards my head and it said "thank you for everything you've done for us. We felt prepared to handle this moment because you taught us how to choose emotions that create strength." And my head turned back towards my heart and replied "well, thank you for loving me so well in return. You remind me that when hope seems illogical, its even more necessary."

Because with every opportunity we are given to react, I wish to react with hope.
