Sunbeams and Moon Shadows

I can barely see the sun coming in through these windows,

the blinds are closed, but I see just enough for it to bring a lightness to my soul.

to be reminded that even though everything else in life ebbs and flows, the sun does not.

the sun is constant.

and the moon is gentle, every night.

offering its soft glow to the things we hide in the dark.

to the tears we cry at night.

to the questions we are only brave enough to ask under the thick blanket of midnight.

although; day or night, light will find us.

but in this room, where I am blinded to the sun or the moon,

I wonder what skeletons are waiting for me in the closet.

without the guidance of sunshine and shadows,

butterflies feel like bullets, and promises burn as hot as ash.

when the direction of tomorrow is as fickle as the wind,

I will remain thankful for the sunbeams on these walls,

and rest patiently on the glimmering shadows of the moon.
